Modified Single Connector Permanent Link - DSX CableAnalyzer

Since the release of the BICSI based Modified One Connector Permanent Link, the TIA has released the Modular Plug Terminated Link (MPTL) model.

The MPTL model is more useful as it uses a Patch Cord Adapter to test the field installed modular plug. Details are available through this KB:

Modular Plug Terminated Link (MPTL) Test Limits for DSX-5000 and DSX-8000

Obs.:  Versiv version 6,4 build 4 removed the "Mod 1-Conn Perm Link" test limits.

Atualização:  Due to customer demand, the "Mod 1-Conn Perm Link" test limits were restored in Version 6,5 build 5.

The setup requires using one permanent link adapter and one channel adapter to connect the Versiv main and remote into the link under test.

These limits are available in the Application Test Limit folder on Versiv:

  • Cat 5e Mod 1-Conn Perm. Link
  • Cat 5e Mod 1-Conn Perm. Link (+ todos)
  • Cat 5e Mod 1-Conn Perm. Link (+PoE)
  • Cat 6 Mod 1-Conn Perm. Link
  • Cat 6 Mod 1-Conn Perm. Link (+ todos)
  • Cat 6 Mod 1-Conn Perm. Link (+PoE)
  • Cat 6A Mod 1-Conn Perm. Link
  • Cat 6A Mod 1-Conn Perm. Link (+ todos)
  • Cat 6A Mod 1-Conn Perm. Link (+PoE)

The following information is from prior to TIA MPTL release:

A YouTube video is also available on this subject.

With the DSX-5000 CableAnalyzer, it is possible to test a link when the far end of the cable has been terminated with a RJ45 plug.

Testing this to obtain a warranty from a cabling vendor? You should consult with them on their requirements, since they are issuing the warranty and not Fluke Networks. Their word is final.

BICSI recognizes this style of link and certain standards bodies are looking to define this link definition.

Connect the DSX-5000 CableAnalyzer as shown below. The main unit must be at the patch panel end.

Selecting the test limit:

Unlike the DTX CableAnalyzer, this will not complain/warn about a Permanent Link adapter being mixed with a Channel Adapter. If you get a message indicating the patch cord at the far end is bad, it means you have failed to maintain the twists in the cable entering the back of the RJ45 plug. You will need to re-terminate the RJ45 plug.
