You can make a Permanent Link measurement using the DSP-LIA011 Basic Link adapters. The Basic Link adapters contain a microchip which has specific calibration data stored in it. When you make a Permanent Link measurement, the analyzer reads the data in the adapter. It then makes a calculation to exclude the test lead from the measurement.
However, as the lead ages, its characteristics will change. This is especially true for Return Loss. Flexing the lead will alter the characteristics of the measurement. Accuracy will be degraded with time.
