The OMNIScanner can tell if a cable is miss-wired or has a fault like an Open or Short. The distance to an Open or Short is also reported on the Wiremap screen.
When running an Autotest, if the Wiremap is bad, the OMNIScanner will not continue the test. It will stop and report a Wiremap failure.
When this happens, you can use the Diagnostics to determine the point of failure in the cable. From the Main screen press the Diagnose Button . Highlight Wiremap and press Enter while connected to the faulty cable.
The OMNIScanner will display the Wiremap of the faulty cable. It will appear similar to one of the following conditions:
An Open is displayed with the pin or pins missing. The distance to the Open is shown in the footage to the left of the pair that has the Open. 121 ft to the open in this example.
A Short will be displayed with the pins that are shorted being connected together . The distance to the Short is shown in the footage to the left of the pair that has the Short. 122 feet to the short in this example.
Crossed Reversed Split Pair
A crossed (or transposed) pair occurs when the two conductors in a wire pair are connected to the position for a different pair at the remote connector. In this example the 36 pair on the OMNIScanner end is connected to the 45 pair on the OMNIRemote end and the 45 pair on the OMNIScanner end is connected to the 36 pair on the OMNIRemote end.
A Reversed Pair occurs when the polarity of one wire pair is reversed at one end of the link (also called a tip/ring reversal). In this example, the 45 pair is Reversed.
Split pairs occur when pin to pin continuity is maintained but physical pairs are separated.
