Method A Reference - DSP FTA Series

Method A is used for testing links in which the total attenuation is dominated by the loss in the fiber cable, rather than the loss of the connectors, as is often the case for long haul telecom networks.
 
The referencing procedure for Method A uses two patch cords and an adapter connector per fiber link to be tested. This method should not be used in the local area network environment where the links are less than 5,000 meters and typically contain only two splices per fiber link.
 
1) Setting the reference:

2) Disconnect the patch cords in the middle and connect to the link under test, as shown below:

The adapter count in the DSP in this case should be 1; there are two adapters per fiber ADDED AFTER the reference was set.
 
Ask yourself the following questions: 

  • How many adapters were used in the reference per fiber? 1 
  • How many adapters are there in the link under test? 2 
So the adapter count is 2 - 1 = 1
