New Poster for Twisted Pair Cabling Measurements

Mark Mullins

While twisted pair can be straightforward to install, measuring its performance can be somewhat more complex. There are more than a dozen different measurements you can make to a twisted pair cable. Some, such as delay, are conceptually quite simple, other, such as equal level transverse conversion transfer loss (ELTLTCL) are a bit more complex. And while your trusty DSX Cable Analyzer can measure ELTLTCL and give you a PASS or FAIL for each, understanding them makes it easier to troubleshoot failures and explain results to your colleagues or customers.

To manage this menagerie of measurements, we gathered our twisted pair cabling experts together and distilled their considerable knowledge into an attractive poster, suitable for framing, or at least covering up that spot on the wall of your office. The poster diagrams all the measurements that are included in every twisted pair standard, how they are calculated, and what can cause them to fail.

So whether you’re trying to figure out what a “reversed pair” wiremap is, or how to calculate resistance unbalance within a pair (the absolute value of the difference between conductor one and conductor two divided by the sum of the resistance of conductor one and conductor two all times 100%, of course), order our new poster today!
